Egg Whites & Oatmeal
Add egg whites and you can’t deny.
That you have a great breakfast that trims your waist
And you can cram your face.
With both, you get protein and good carbs…
Okay, I give up. That was my attempt at a Sir Mix-A-Lot style rap.
So I have heard about people, mostly figure competitors, posting about adding egg whites to their oatmeal in the AM to add protein to the meal. This seemed disgusting to me, honestly, but the logic was strong. I need to add some protein to my oatmeal ritual. SO… Finally, yesterday I had the courage to try it, and it wasn’t bad at all! Had it again today, and I like it even MORE!
(Personally, I don’t like rolled oats because they get too mushy and I just don’t care for the texture. Though, steel cut oats are hearty and delicious.)
[RECIPE] Here’s what I do:
I cook 1/4 steel cut oats in somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 cup of skim milk. (I prefer to use a little Le Creuset Ceramic Pan)
I add in a tsp of turbinado.
Once the milk is boiling, I add in two egg whites.
You have to keep stirring the whole time. Takes less than 10 minutes.
Then I add 1/2 tbs of low calorie margarine. Serve with Illy dark roast espresso.
(Okay, the coffee is not required, I just love it.)
